I think textmessaging is a great thing, its easy to use and you kan use it almost every were. I belive that textmessaging improves the language skills. And I think it’s because you use it so much, most of us every day, at allmost all time. On your mobile phone & your computere sending SMS, mesages on MSN and even in some games.
When you send a textmesage you often use foreshortenings to make it go faster to write. Some people are getting so used to them that they uses them instead of normal words, in Norway also. for eksample: when something is funny you say LOL or ROFLMAO instead of just saying it was funny. Words from the textmesage language is pushing word from your normal language away, and replacing them.

I must say that I don’t agree at all, John-Berge. Maybe textmessaging is a great thing, but only when it comes to technology and communication. I don’t belive that textmessaging improves the language skills, I think it’s opposite. All these abbereviated words ruin our language, making it incomprehensible and ugly. I personally love the norwegian language, and I would not see that our beautifull and spesical distinctive stamp will be destroyed by this awfull shortenings.

My opinion is that it is good that not all have the same meanings as I have. I think you angled your opinion in a special way. I actually don't believe that textmessaging will improve your language skills. I have played a lot of computergames and I make use of many words like "LOL" and "OMG" or "BRB" each day myself, but my opinion, however, is that it's really hard to return to the normal language afterwards.
At the other hand, i can agree with you that the textmessaging language is a great thing when you for instance have to write something really fast.
